John Fielder donates his life’s work to History Colorado in 2023
This spring History Colorado will make all of my photographs available for free digital searches, for personal and commercial use by the general public, as well as host ongoing exhibitions featuring my work.
I have decided to donate my life’s work of photography to you, the people of Colorado. As our state’s historical preservation arm, History Colorado will be the repository of this collection of more than 7,500 photos distilled from 200,000 made since 1973. In addition, it will receive important artifacts from my career including photography equipment, published books, various papers, and oral histories about life on the wilderness trail. Established in 1879, History Colorado is the caretaker of our state’s collective memory. It has protected historic treasures and directed over a quarter of a billion dollars in grants for statewide preservation and education. Read more HERE…
JOHN’S LATEST BOOK IS NOW AVAILABLE FOR PRE-PURCHASE
This may be John Fielder’s best book yet…and with no mountains! Those who do not know Weld County will be astounded by the beauty and allure of Colorado’s third largest county. In four years, Fielder explored each of its 4,000 square miles: from golden wheat to green alfalfa fields; from the confluence of the South Platte and Poudre rivers to the Pawnee Buttes and National Grasslands.
JOHN’S 2020 BEST SELLER IS BACK IN PRINT AND AVAILABLE
Learn how all 58 mountains were named. This may be John Fielder's finest history book since the popular Colorado 1870-2000 series of W.H. Jackson repeat photography books. Author Jeri Norgren has written fascinating text and Fielder has finally published his collection of “fourteener” images. You will also enjoy the oil paintings of Robert Wogrin and historical sketches by the artists of the Hayden Survey of the 1870s.
